Why So Many Blogs FAIL and How To Succeed
The other day as I was browsing the web and trying to find other writers and bloggers so that I could go and comment on their blog, I noticed something very interesting.
I happened on a blog that had quite a few comments, so I began going through the list of comments and clicking on the links to the commenter’s websites.
The comments dated all the way back to 2009, but as I began clicking, I noticed that very few of the blogs were still around. Out of every four I clicked maybe one was still live although most of them were no longer active.
What Does This Mean To Me?
If you do the math, you will find that the number comes out to 75%. That is how many blogs of the ones I looked at that had FAILED since 2009! Also, that is not counting the blogs in the 25% that are no longer active.
Blogging is no joke! This goes to show how many blogs fail without ever getting off the ground. It goes to show that successful blogging takes lots of work and effort, and it takes a good writer to keep a good blog.
As a writer and blogger it should not discourage you though. Just because other blogs fail does not mean yours will too. Rather it should encourage you to go above and beyond to create a blog that will last for years to come.
Why Do So Many Blogs Fail?
There are so many reasons bloggers might just simply give up on their blogs but a few stand out from the rest.
- No Vision
Lack of vision is probably one of the greatest factors when it comes to blogging failures. Many people start a blog hoping to strike it rich but when they begin doing it they realize just how difficult it is.
Without a vision for your blog, your blog is destined to fail. On the other hand, if you do have a vision then you have something to look forward to when the job gets tough. A vision gives you an idea of where you want to be and motivates you to do what you need to get there.
- Writers Block
Another major blog killer is writers block. So many bloggers start out and simply don’t realize how much work writing really is. You have to consistently write unique and informative posts if you want people to keep coming back to your blog.
However, so many times bloggers write and write and then simply hit a point where they run out of ideas. When writers block sets in you have to deal with it immediately and effectively or you will come to the point where you just stop writing for your blog.
- Poorly Written Content
Bad content makes a bad blog, and a bad blog gets no visitors. Bad content is something that will hurt your blog if you do not take care of it right away.
So many blogs fail because the writer did not put the time and effort necessary to write quality posts that people enjoy reading. This could be simply because the writer was not interested in the topic or felt so stressed to get lots of content out that they simply didn’t take time to write it right.
Your readers do not want to read bad content and search engines like Google will not rank you if they think the content on your site is poorly written.
How You and Your Blog Can Succeed!
I realize that the beginning of this post may seem rather negative but the fact is we must be aware of what causes blogs to fail so that we can avoid this and rather succeed.
It is possible and in fact probable to succeed in blogging if you take the necessary steps to ensure your success.
Here are a few things you can do to ensure your blog stays alive:
- Plan to Succeed
Planning to succeed also includes having a vision for your blog. If you don’t have an idea of where you want your blog to be 3 years from now, how will you know if you have succeeded?
With a solid vision in mind you can begin working your way to success one step at a time and actually get excited as you see your blog getting closer and closer to your goal. Set smaller goals and reward yourself when you achieve those goals and your blog is sure to be a success.
- Be Yourself, Write What You Are Passionate About
When I first started out in the world of blogging I was not quite set on what I wanted to blog about. This caused me to look at writing as a boring task that I simply had to do.
However, when I started writing about my passion (travel) it opened up my eyes to see writing in a whole new light and now I am a passionate writer who is passionate about writing!
Writing about a topic that sparks your interest will help your blog succeed because the more you like what you are writing about, the more you will write.
- Write Like a Pro
When you evaluate successful blogs, you should always look at the writer behind those blogs. When you do this you will notice that their blogs have been successful because they stuck with it and kept on writing good quality content.
If your blog is to succeed, then you must ensure that every post you publish is top quality and the best content you can offer. Well written, and informative posts cause people to tell their friends and give you an edge over other bloggers.
This does not mean that you have to do all the work yourself though. You can always outsource your content writing if the need arises. Just be sure you review it and change it to fit your writing voice. You can also invite other good bloggers in your niche to contribute a guest post to your blog.
I started off this article talking about how many blogs have failed over the past couple years alone, but I hope that after reading this article you have seen that this does NOT have to be you.
Blogging just like anything else takes work but if you stay committed and work hard you can and will have a successful blog.
